Full Name: Accordion CPC Gradient YAG:Ce + Sapphire + Diamond Hybrid Pure Photon Collector
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We collect scattered, chaotic, 100% free photons coming from the Sun at a single point. We do not generate energy, we only bend existing light. The mirror itself is not fuel, only a scoop.
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
Because to heat Mars with glass mirrors you need an area the size of Cyprus – 500,000 tons – impossible.
With film mirror 6,400 tons – 40 Starships – doable.
We divided that 6,400 tons into 475 kg pieces with our accordion funnel.
ARCHITECTURE – 6 LAYERS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM
LAYER 0 – NAME AND PACKAGING
Name: STC-FUNNEL-01
Diameter: 60 meters when open, 2 meters x 4 meters tube when closed
Weight: 475 kg carbon version, 1.5 ton SiC immortal version
Packaging: Folds like an accordion, 40 units fit in Starship
Deployment: Nitinol memory wire, heat to 90 degrees, self-opens. No motor.
LAYER 1 – OUTER ARMOR – SYNTHETIC SAPPHIRE
Material: Synthetic Sapphire Al2O3, 2mm thick, 100x100mm plates x6 hexagonal
Function: Micrometeor, UV, dust. Survives 2050 C, scratch-proof, no fading for 50 years.
Source: Kyocera Japan, Saint-Gobain France, $90/plate
Physics: n=1.76, lets light in, does not let it escape
LAYER 2 – HEAT SPREADER – SYNTHETIC DIAMOND
Material: CVD Diamond 0.5mm, only at focal point 20x20mm small piece – not full plate
Function: Thermal conductivity 2200 W/mK, copper is 400. Instantly throws heat to graphene radiator.
Source: Element Six – De Beers, $180 small piece
Physics: T_crystal drops 610 K → 480 K, Landauer heat drops 21%
Can we skip it: Yes, for mass production Mars ring we skip diamond for cost. We use it for demo and Sun-diving sail.
LAYER 3 – HEART – GRADIENT YAG:Ce CERAMIC
Material: Ce:YAG Y3-xCexAl5O12, 5-layer gradient doping
- Layer 1 sun side 0.05% Ce
- Layer 2 0.1% Ce
- Layer 3 0.2% Ce
- Layer 4 0.3% Ce
- Layer 5 exit side 0.4% Ce
Function: Absorbs blue photon, converts to yellow, traps inside. τ_spont 65 ns → 38 ns shortened.
Source: Konoshima Chemical Japan, Crytur Czechia, Edmund Optics prototype $240/plate
Physics: n=1.83, Total Internal Reflection 99.5%, Luminescent Concentrator, deterministic delay Δt = 196 μs
LAYER 4 – BODY – ACCORDION MIRROR
Material: MIRO-SILVER 27, Alanod Germany, 98% reflectivity, PVD silver, 0.3mm
Function: Throws back photons trying to escape YAG, focuses to single point. Bend angle 15 degree CPC.
Source: Alanod direct, Turkey distributor Litpa Lighting, $90/m2
Physics: CPC parabola, etendue conservation
LAYER 5 – FOCUS – QUARTZ ROD AND CBC
Material: Quartz rod + Coherent Beam Combining module
Function: Combines phase-locked beams from 8 funnels into single coherent laser mode. Phase locking cost is Landauer heat.
Physics: Information erasure, ΔI = 0.86e26 bit/s for 0.4% Ce
THERMAL BALANCE – FINAL CALCULATION
P_sun = P_laser + P_optic + P_quantum + P_Landauer+Delay
- Input: 962 kW
- Optic loss: 96 kW
- Quantum defect: 530 kW – dropped from 548 thanks to diamond
- Landauer+Delay: 12.0 kW – dropped from 26 thanks to gradient + diamond
- Laser output: 324 kW
- Radiator: 295 m2 graphene, 480 K crystal
Classical calculation: 298 kW, 305 m2, crystal cracks
Our final architecture: 324 kW, 295 m2, crystal solid

FINAL WORD
Name: Solar Funnel
What it does: Collects Sun’s light for free
Why accordion: To fit in Starship
Why YAG:Ce: To trap light
Why sapphire: To be immortal
Why diamond: To stay cold
Why gradient: To drop 26 kW to 12 kW
One product, one physics, four planets. If you order today, it burns 150 MW on Mars in 2028.
