​Headline: The Echoes of the Deep: A Memory Under Pressure

​When I was blindfolded and put under pressure, they said the word “sponge.” In that moment of darkness, my mind didn’t go to a simple object; it raced back to those old black-and-white documentaries about the sponge divers of the Mediterranean.

​I thought of the “Sponge Divers” and the silent torture of “The Bends” (Decompression Sickness). I remembered how those brave men risked paralysis and agonizing pain just to bring something back from the deep. Under the weight of my own situation, the word “sponge” triggered the feeling of being breathless underwater, the physical agony of a diver striking the surface too fast, and the tragic isolation of the deep blue.

​For me, it wasn’t just a word; it was the symbol of a struggle for survival and the heavy price paid for it.
