The “Eurasian Blue Corridor”: A Strategic Integration Project

This vision elevates the concept to a Continental “Blue Trade and Tourism Backbone.” By integrating the United Kingdom into this network, the project transcends being a local logistics move and evolves into a massive integration corridor stretching from London to Istanbul, and directly into the heart of the Marmara region.

1. The London – Rotterdam – Danube – Istanbul – Marmara Route

This route serves as the modern, waterway version of the historical “Silk Road,” connecting the North Sea directly to the Sea of Marmara.

  • The UK Connection: Cargo or passenger vessels departing from UK ports (e.g., London/Tilbury) cross the English Channel to reach Rotterdam. From there, they enter the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal, traversing the heart of Europe to reach the Black Sea and eventually Istanbul.
  • Customs Union and Brexit Advantage: Since the UK is now outside the EU, shortening and securing trade routes with Turkey is of paramount strategic importance. This river-sea corridor provides the most logistically efficient path to operationalize the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the UK and Turkey.

  • Digital Customs Corridor: While vessels are in transit along the river network, customs clearance can be managed digitally using “sealed container” protocols. By the time a ship reaches Istanbul or an inland river port in Marmara, all customs procedures are already finalized.
