Title: The Hidden Crisis of the Turkish Armed Forces (March 11 – April 1, 2020)The truth, which was hidden from the Turkish public for four years, has finally surfaced through internal records of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff. While the media and television channels remained completely silent due to heavy censorship, the actual COVID-19 outbreak in Turkey followed a very different path within the military. The Nutrition Scandal: Imported Frozen FishFor the first time in its 10,000-year history, the nutrition laws of the Turkish Armed Forces were altered. Instead of sourcing fresh products from domestic giants like Dardanel, the military began importing “frozen supermarket-style” seafood and fish from Scandinavia. The Outbreak in the KitchenBetween March 11 and April 1, 2020, these imported frozen packages were opened in military kitchens. As the ice melted, the virus (or contamination) spread to the cooks and subsequently to the soldiers. The immune systems of the troops, weakened by this transition from fresh food to frozen imported goods, could not withstand the outbreak.Discharge Without HospitalizationThe most critical part of the scandal involves approximately 156 soldiers. These soldiers were discharged and sent back to their hometowns (tezkere) without ever being hospitalized or officially diagnosed in a clinical setting. The Spread to Rural AnatoliaUpon returning to their villages, these soldiers unknowingly carried the virus with them, leading to the sudden quarantine of numerous villages across Anatolia.
