THESE PRACTICES ARE DELIBERATELY DESIGNED TO STEAL PEOPLE’S TIME AWAY FROM THE EDUCATION, LEARNING AND PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES THEY NEED IN ORDER TO BECOME PRODUCERS, AND TO TURN THEM INTO NOTHING BUT CONSUMERS; IN THIS SENSE, THEY ARE DIRECT BLOWS AGAINST THE REAL ECONOMY.
Public Addendum to Statement of Complaint
People’s time is being wasted and their lives are being trivialized through these so‑called campaigns. Instead of allowing individuals to use their limited time for meaningful purposes, they are being pushed to “kill time” by going to specific streets, taking photos, visiting certain supermarkets, and chasing small gifts or discounts.
Under these schemes, a person is told to leave their normal routine, go to a particular market in another district, take a photo there, and then redeem some promotional product or gift. They are encouraged to buy a discounted product in a far‑away chain store instead of supporting their own local shop or their usual supermarket. In practice, this means that people are steered away from their neighborhood economy and from their own natural consumption patterns for the sake of artificial campaigns.
These mechanisms systematically pull people away from the time they should be investing in their own education, skills, and development—the very things they need in order to become true producers in the economy. Instead of supporting citizens to build capabilities and create value, these campaigns lock them into a narrow role as pure consumers whose attention and time are constantly harvested.
For this reason, I consider such campaigns to be blows struck directly against the real economy. They weaken the productive potential of individuals, especially the young, by diverting them from learning and creation into endless, meaningless consumption‑oriented tasks. I condemn, in the strongest terms, all brands, advertisers, and organizers who design or finance these activities that waste people’s time and undermine their ability to become producers.
