The cleaning and conservation processes for these artifacts must technically and legally be executed on-site under the supervision of cemetery caretakers and certified conservators, utilizing standard manual/mechanical procedures (such as knapsack sprayers, appropriate neutral soap solutions, and soft brushes) without displacing the stones.
Contrary to these conservation standards, registered historical gravestones are being dismantled under the pretext of restoration projects, transported across extensive distances or to workshops in other cities, and subsequently returned. Subjecting these protected assets to unmonitored workshop conditions outside the direct supervision of the relevant Cemeteries Directorate and Regional Conservation Boards creates a critical vulnerability, enabling the theft of original artifacts and their substitution with substandard, counterfeit replicas.
